         Nipah virus

Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic virus, meaning it can be transmitted from animals to humans. It can also spread through contaminated food or directly between people. In infected individuals, it causes a range of illnesses, from asymptomatic (subclinical) infection to acute respiratory illness and fatal encephalitis. The case fatality rate varies but can be as high as 40% to 75% during outbreaks. There is currently no specific treatment or vaccine available for Nipah virus, and supportive care is the primary approach for managing affected individuals. Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family serve as the natural host for this virus
